A rug under a couch should relate to the full seating area, not just the width of the sofa. The best size depends on the couch, chairs, coffee table and available floor space.

Small seating areas

For compact rooms, a 160 x 230 cm or 200 x 290 cm rug may provide enough coverage to connect the main furniture.

Larger sofas and lounge suites

A 240 x 330 cm or larger rug can give a generous seating arrangement more visual balance and allow more furniture to sit on the rug.

Placement tip

In many rooms, placing at least the front legs of the couch on the rug creates a more connected look than leaving the rug floating in front of the sofa.
